Game Plans

After the past weekend’s UFC 143, the Diaz vs. Condit fight has been Tweeted, Facebooked, written, spoken and argued about every single day.

It’s a hot topic due to what exactly went down. Sure, the highlight packages from both fighters created the basis for a spectacular fight. Flurries of combinations from Diaz and flying knees from Condit. This fight was set to be amazing. Although, what went down, to fans, was completely disapointing.

Condit had a game plan and he stuck to it, thus making it unintersting for fans, but he won. The UFC is as much about the fans as it is about a fighter’s career. Should Condit have just gone all out for the sake of entertainment? Or should he have played it safe against a dangerous and deadly Diaz? Fans think the latter.

Diaz seemingly retired after this fight claiming he doesn’t want to “play the game” anymore. He’s a fighter. One of the best, too. He’s also arrogant and hot-headed.

With rumors of a rematch in the future, one wonders as to how that match would be any different. Would Condit want to please fans? Would Diaz leave it to the judges again? And speaking of – no fighter should leave it to the judges. Prime example: Sonnen vs. Bisping.
