Last night was an exciting, controversial, and fun night of fights over at Bellator. The main event featured Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki. All it took was one short right that rocked the former victor. Eddie ended the fight by ground and pounding his opponent into another realm. Even after Aoki’s corner threw in the towel to stop the fight, the ref did not see it and let the barrage of punches continue for a few more seconds.
But the most controversial part of last night’s fight came at Falcao and Spang’s post-fight faceoff. Spang pushed Falcao who responded with a knee from inside the clinch. Spang was later fined 20% of his purse which added up to $6,000. Now for a while this was a very hot topic on social networks, fight forums and most of all, twitter. It looked like the next morning this would be front page news on all MMA websites leading up to UFC 145. However, enter Uncle Dana.
Before taking off for Atlanta, Dana decided to tweet the following,
Taking off to Atlanta!!!! May 26 th is now Mir vs JDS for the HW title in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.
Really Dana? You just had to start a trend on twitter in a matter of minutes after Bellator. What a coincidence. So not only might the UFC be draining Bellator of Hector Lombard and Eddie Alvarez, but the 2nd league companies can’t even stay in the spotlight for more than an hour.
I didn’t say that Dana wasn’t a smart guy, but man does he play the game fiercely.
